MAKEUP

We allocated time today to experiment with makeup we are going to perform in. Many do not take into consideration the cosmetic aspect of fashion and how makeup can make all the difference.

As mentioned before we were very inspired buy the recent Margiela runway which showcased a range of beautiful porcelain makeup looks by Pat McGrath. So I decided to buy the same Cucumber peel off mask which we intended to water down and spray onto our skin just like McGrath did with her models. Since the process of spraying and drying it time consuming only Rae managed to apply the porcelain look to her face, to which she was going for an abstract, over the top face painted look, somewhat of a caricature that resembles her own drawing style which I found interesting. Helen created a gentle Chinese fairy/spirit look, Sara wanted subtle eyeliner and golden eyeshadow and Kordian wanted to keep it simple with eyeliner which is fine because each of our looks are unique and shows our individuality.

For me I wanted to create a subtly iridescent or etherial makeup look. I began by trying to find my shade of foundation which I could not find and everyone said I didn’t need. I brought some glitter highlighter from home and applied it to my eyes (especially the corners), cheekbones and temple. I went over with eyeliner to mimic traditional (kohl) but excited to make it more exaggerated. Inspired by Rae’s impulsiveness I slathered my eyelashes with the highlighter, and finally I finished off with little rhinestones. Here’s how it turned out under different lighting and perspectives:

If only I had more time to apply the spray on mask, but overall this lesson was lovely because I got to connect more with my classmates. For instance me and Pheobe were bonding a bit over “Glow Up’ and SFX art, people complemented and helped each other, Rae tried to find my shade, little things which felt nice.
