Our challenge as a group is to start devising THE story/narrative behind our project. This could be done through writing, sound, visuals, movement and other effective forms of communication. Furthermore we had to understand what it means to "divise' before all else; to contrive, plan, or elaborate; invent from existing principles or ideas: to devise a method e.g Theater - to develop (a play) collaboratively with the performers:
This was a struggle because our objects are so different, so we all got A3 pieces of Paper and began individually mind mapping ideas and themes stemming from our objects, just discussing and writing whatever we can think of, then making connections between our ideas in some way shape or form.
THESE ARE SOME OF THE COMMON THEMES WE MADE
Time --------------> History
Found Objects
Internationalism
Capitalism
Ethical Consumerism
Politics
Culture ---------------> Identity
Social hierarchy and class
DEVELOPED IDEAS
Installation art
Costumes and clothes
Makeup
Body Mapping
Background projection - cut around the body
Passage of time
Hues of blue and nature gradually transform into destruction ---> with simple choreography
Mime ---> Trapped in a box, French ---> current events ---> Political ---> history
RUNWAY
THE IDEA
Rae suggested a runway to be our theme, inspired by the recent Manson margínela SS24 runway, a masterpiece, and after some discussion we all got on board because there’s so much we can do with this concept to make it unique and fantastic, we can combine performance, fashion design, technology, virtual reality, poetry, and furthermore - it is the best idea we got.
OUR THOUGHT PROCESS:
Fashion is a social construct
Can easily link to nature lab
Sounds from the hike in the back
lights and effects
Capitalism ---> Fashion ---> Consumerism ---> Pollution ---> Negative
3D elements ---> Things hanging from nature
Found objects ---> nature, acorn, bottle caps, etc
Internationalism
Each outfit could still reflect personal style
Conceptual collection
Colour to create mood
Later in the afternoon we were tasked to quickly make a short performance piece using projection technology. This made me think of a few performances I have seen before such as this by Aya Bambi, a Japanese dancing duo/couple whome l was really into a few years back.
Helen was inspired by the passage of time, a theme we discussed earlier, and came up with the idea of projecting people walking fast onto someone walking slow; its simple yet meaningful. We struggled to find the right video to project with until Rae remembered some videos that she took herself which perfectly fit with our vision. I was given the role of performing, quite badly, but it got the point across.
