Bringing the Thought into the Digital

During my weekend I focused on replicating my drawings of the sea characters into digital softwares such as Procreate and Nomad Sculpt, and recording the process as a way of linking the tutorial aspect of codeing-train into our project. Using Premier Rush I compiled hours worth of these recordings into short minute long timelapses.

PROCREATE

Procreate already has a timelapse feature which can export your entire process into a 30 second videos.

I would have expanded these drawings with color theory and fashion design but I needed to manage my time properly and include the other themes of my digital objects, 360 rotation and Interactivity.

NOMAD SCULPT

In a matter of 2 days I learned a lot more about this software whilst experimenting, like how to make a full body anatomy from basic shapes, how to make 3D textures using 2D monochrome photographs, and how to remesh my model ready for printing. But due to time I had to retain a level of self control and not get carried away, because I would've kept on making variations upon variations of these Enki people up until Christmas. For me this whole character making stage is the most fun part of this project, actually making art.

SOME LEARNING MOMENTS

Nomad has something called MatCaps which are a gallery of different materials with distinct visual properties e.g. color, shine, etc. You can change your Mat cap anytime whilst working on them, hence why my models change color midway. The iredescent MatCap is perfect for my underwater creature, as if my sunlamp was shining on him from above the water.

I use an app called Gif Cracker which turns any gif into a video in seconds, and only just realised that you can add filters as well so I played around for a bit and made a gallery of all these cool variations.

Until now our group has mainly focused on the material and thought lab. Aside from the projection mapping and sensory simulation, we had little to no element of digital lab. So all this digital work I did really balances our project altogether. I will definately contintue creating concept art over the Christmas break because I am genuinely obsessed with this theme now.

PS: MY MODELS HAVE FINS ON THE SIDE OF THEIR THIGHS THEIR THIGHS ARE'NT BUILT THAT THICK!!! JUST TO CLARIFY.
